Announcement from Ventrilo

Category: Zone BBS Suggestions and Feedback

Post 1 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Wednesday, 01-Dec-2004 19:39:35

Hello. my name is J.J., otherwise known as J-Squared on the Zone BBS.
I would like to start out by thanking the hundreds of users who have made this site what it is today. Without you this ite wouldn't be as far along as it is. I would also like to recognize the countless hours given by our community leaders and programmers: Maddog, Kc8pnl, dfreak, Liam, CJS204, Dobbin, and Chris N.

First, let's announce the winner of our profile contest.
WPuggle, Captainblinky, Fabolous, Sugar, and Ambitionist did a great job and were tied for 2nd place. But the winner is Torico. But what does she win?

That leads me in to our other announcement. Those of you who have been around for awhile have probably seen the various discussions about premium memberships. And we're pleased to announce that they're finally here. First, what'sincluded. Here's the current list, though it's certain to expand:
Audio profiles, now up to two minutes long
Quicknote history - see all public Quicknotes and any private notes that you sent or received
Custom title on the boards - It now doesn't matter how many posts you have. You can use a custom title that displays below your name on all posts to the boards.
Anagram Extreme - A second game of Anagram Mania just for premium members.
Also, we'll give you first chance to play any new games that we add to the site. This list is certain to get bigger over time, and we welcome your suggestions.
Now to the cost. We want to keep this affordable for as many people as possible. So for now until the end of 2004, you can get a one-year premium membership for $20. Also as our thanks for signing up early, we'll extend your membership through the end of 2005. If you sign up on or after January 1, 2005, the cost will be $25. YMemberships will last from one year of the date of purchase. We currently accept Paypal and money orders, and are working on taking credit cards as well.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for making the Zone BBS what it is today.

For those who've asked, we'll have the payment info up in the next day or two. Or send me a private note if you want the fast track. We'll also have the Quicknote history feature available for all in a day or two for you to try out for a few days.

Yay for my sis Torico!!

Post 4 by DHS Darcy (Zone BBS Addict) on Wednesday, 01-Dec-2004 21:20:01

I meant to ask this on the ventrilo chat, but had to go before I got a chance. When you say you don't currently accept payment via credit card, does that include paypal payments? I ask because there are two types of paypal accounts one can have, one where you can accept payments when the payer uses a credit card, and one where you can not. I believe the one where you can take credit card payments is called a merchant account, but I'm not positive there.

Whwhwhwhhwwhwooooooootdtdtdtdt! As some of you know, I popped into the server before chorus, but didn't hear any of this fabulous news. My congratulations to the profile winners, and to everyone on ZoneBBS who enjoys the site as much as I do! Can't wait for more info on the premium membership, I'm probably going to get it, yay! Lol. Almost got in trouble for leaving people off the list PG. We take credit cards through Paypal. I was talking about credit cards without Paypal. We can do this, but only over the phone at this point unless you wanna send your credit card through a quicknote, lol. I doubt it. We'll have the Paypal link up later in the week, but first have to work on the Quicknote review some more. It works but I need to add a few things. There'll be a version up to try in a day or two.

Yay Torico. You go girl!
I don't have a paypal account set up but I will get one.

J forgot to mention the all-important prize Torico wins! .. a year's worth of premium free of charge!
Well done Torr'rr'rr'rr'rr'rr'rico! :)

Post 11 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Thursday, 02-Dec-2004 2:28:04

Oops, yes I did.
Torrico will have a premium membership through the end of 2005.
Check out the beta of the Quicknote History feature from the main menu. Fill out the form or just click on the link to see the latest public and private notes. It'll be free for the next few days. We plan to add some more search options soon.

Will the new quicknote history viewer be free to non-premium members??
I hope so!
Let us know!

Post 14 by Japanimangel (Account disabled) on Thursday, 02-Dec-2004 12:40:54

good job torey! Congrats on winning the membership! Thanks to all fo the comunity leaders to. What does that membership come to in canadian dollars? lol thats probably a stupid question right?

Post 15 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Thursday, 02-Dec-2004 14:25:32

The quicknote history is one of the premium features, as said above, mostly because of storing hundreds of thousands of old notes on the server. Canadian, eh? I think it's between $25-30 right now.

Post 16 by _rory_ (predictable kryptic) on Thursday, 02-Dec-2004 16:29:52

i was wondering, when you put in a user name, and pick to see only public notes, is it supposed to show the conversation, or just strictly their notes?

Post 17 by rdfreak (THE ONE AND ONLY TRUE-BLUE KANGA-KICKIN AUSIE) on Thursday, 02-Dec-2004 17:12:16

accoshah: it's only their notes you see if you type in their name. .. I had heaps of fun last night Lol .. and PG yes we do all make mistakes, even myself unfortunately ha Lol

Post 18 by Kwork (Premium Zoner) on Thursday, 02-Dec-2004 18:07:32

As part of premium memberships, will users till be able to ignore themselves if they so choose to?

Post 19 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Thursday, 02-Dec-2004 18:23:01

Lol yes if you really want to.

Post 20 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Thursday, 02-Dec-2004 18:26:01

OK, on names. If you select private you'll get any conversation between you and them, both sides. Public shows you only their public notes. all shows you both of these.

Post 21 by admin (I just keep on posting!) on Thursday, 02-Dec-2004 22:29:13

The premium information page is now available from the main menu.

Post 24 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Friday, 03-Dec-2004 2:34:13

OK, I give up.

Post 25 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Friday, 03-Dec-2004 16:21:47

Chris N added search by date to the QN history. Try it out and let us know what you think. I also made some minor changes to the profile browser. Now sorts by most recent profiles by default instead of points, shows 20 per page by default, and doesn't show you the link to jump to every single page at the bottom as that was getting pretty long.

Post 26 by _rory_ (predictable kryptic) on Friday, 03-Dec-2004 16:30:35

i like the search by date on the quicknotes.

We're in the process of expanding our programming staff. Don't like giving dates. Anyone who's into accessible games or just games knows how frustrating giving a date is when it isn't released when promised. That's why we don't do it here. That, and I love surprises.
